The residence permit for contract-based assignments allows non-EU workers to be employed when an Italian company awards a contract or subcontract for works or services to a foreign company (Art. 27, para. 1, lett. i, Legislative Decree 286/1998).
Clearance (nulla osta) for contract-based assignments:
- must be requested by the Italian contracting company;
- can be submitted at any time of the year (not subject to quotas);
- requires prior notification to the relevant local trade unions;
- applies to workers regularly employed abroad and seconded to Italy to perform the activities covered by the contract.
Permit duration:
- valid for the time needed to complete the work or service;
- maximum duration: 2 years.
